Moncoeur Creative Writing Club (Cohort 1)

Today marked the end of our 'Introduction to Creative Writing' workshop on the MGC WhatsApp Platform.

In the past two weeks, students of the workshop were trained on the elements of writing fiction and nonfiction.
They were also introduced to writing an Autobiography.

The traditional method of teaching creative writing, which we employ, has won the hearts of our students.

They have fallen more in love with literature and their minds have opened up to many writing possibilities with their imagination. The feedback has been nothing short of amazing.

They were taught to appreciate Poetry by analysing poems. This they did by noting the elements of diction, theme, tone/mood, setting, climax and literary devices.

Gabriel Okara's, 'You Laughed, Laughed and Laughed' and Nkenchor Osemeke's 'Love' were analysed; thereafter, participants of the workshop were made to write and appreciate their own poems.

During the Fiction class, 'Taduno's Song' by Odafe Atogun and 'The Fishermen' by Chigozie Obioma were understudied. This was followed by the students writing their own short stories.

It was an eventful learning experience on the MGC WhatsApp Platform amidst the pandemic. Now that Cohort 1 has ended, we look forward to the next cohort in the coming month.
