How to Write an Acrostic Poem.

An acrostic poem is one where the first letters of the lines spell out a word or words if you read them vertically.

These poems are playful and easy to recite. To write an acrostic poem, a theme is chosen for instance a name, place or thing and then words are ascribed to the first letters. On the whole it looks like a book, but when the first letters are looked at, they reveal they stand for a complete word or thing.

Below are some ideas you can use to write your own acrostic poems:

1) Write an acrostic using your first name or the first name of someone dear to you.

2) Write an acrostic about your town or city, with the lines spelling out its name.

3) Write an acrostic about your best weather or month of the year, with the lines spelling out the name of the season or month.

4) Write an acrostic about a profession you love.

5) Write an acrostic about a secret place, with the first letters spelling out the name of the place.
